Euro 2024: Austria tops Group D with a Stunning defeat 3-2 Defeat of Netherlands as France Finish second.

In a dramatic final matchday of Group D in Euro 2024, Ralf Rangnick's Austria emerged as the unlikely winner. Austria clinched a historic win over the Netherlands, beating Ronald Koeman's side 3-2 in Berlin on Tuesday, June 25. On the other hand, France fluffed an opportunity to top the group as they were held by Poland 1-1 in Dortmund.

The Netherlands came back twice through Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo's strikes, but Austria found a late winner in Marcel Sabitzer's 80th-minute strike to clinch a win over the Dutch side for the first time in 34 years. Sabitzer came up with a sensational finish, launching one into the back post from a tight angle on the left.

Austria took the lead as early as the sixth minute of the game in Berlin through an own goal by Donyell Malen. Austria headed into the break with a 1-0 lead, but Cody Gakpo struck right after the break after the Netherlands hit Austria on the counter. Austria took the lead back at the hour mark after a diving header from Romano Schmid.

Memphis Depay equalised for the Netherlands in the 75th minute after VAR was brought into play for a handball check. Just when the Dutch were beginning to breathe easy, they were hit by Sabitzer's powerful strike in the 80th minute.

Austria began their campaign in Euro 2024 with a 1-0 defeat to France, but they outclassed Poland 3-1 before clinching a shock win over the Netherlands. Rangnick's men have laid down an early marker, finishing the group stage with six goals in their last two games.

Austria have allowed themselves to dream big as they will be facing one of the third-placed teams. The Netherlands, meanwhile, might be up against a group winner, having made the job difficult for themselves.

Also, France fluffed an opportunity to finish on top of Group D after being held 1-1 by Poland in Dortmund. Austria topped the group with a sensational 3-2 win over the Netherlands. France and Austria confirmed their place in the Round of 16.
